Dark souls is a series of hard games and which one of them you think is the hardest is very subjective, but this guide will try to answer the question. Please note that this is just my opinion and experiences, if you have a different one you are free to post it in the comments section below.

This list is ranking of every dark souls from easiest to hardest. It’s all very subjective, but here’s one potential ranking:

1. Bloodborne

Bloodborne
Bloodborne

Bloodborne may have been an unexpected comparison to FromSoftware’s classic series, but like any good game it has its own unique identity and challenges. Those who hadn’t played a Demon’s or Dark Souls before were certainly in for one heckuva rude awakening with Bloodbourne

The Rally mechanic heightened emphasis on evasion makes avoiding attacks easier than ever while some disappointingly easy bosses make this more accessible even if you’ve already mastered past titles from these developers!

2. Dark Souls III

After years of refinement and quality-of life changes (more which were added by players themselves), this entry in the series was rather more polished than its predecessors.

Combat still ruled, but it had become easier to follow as a result of improved linearity during battle sequences as well as through offering better explanations for various mechanics utilized within each fight – such is often seen with boss fights where you need not wander around wondering how your opponent will attack or what items they might use against you if any at all!

3. Dark Souls II

The second entry in the series certainly didn’t take it easy on the player. Mechanically, it just ‘feels’ different to any other series entry with a timing of rolls and durability for weapons that were difficult adjust to at first glance

But even then there is still something missing from these challenging boss fights as well as unforgiving areas alike which makes some players not want play through this game again once they beat their score!

4. Demon’s Souls

Demon’s Souls
Demon’s Souls

The game that started it all, in terms of difficulty. Demon’s Souls is unforgiving to say the least with an unusual amount of pressure placed on players at all times to be aware of their surroundings, manage their stamina and remain calm during seemingly endless encounters!

With limited experience with games that are actually difficult during the time, Demon’s Souls was certainly a daunting game to most players at launch

Many of the bosses in this game are one of the most memorable due to how epic they are! Facing 8 Kings is definitely something you don’t want to miss out on!

5. Dark Souls

The game that kicked off the entire series is often hailed by many players to be one of the most difficult games in gaming history!

If you were not good at action games before this got released, chances are you will not get used to it till this day! The tutorial messages don’t tell much about your foes and even when they do, you still end up dying over and over again because the game didn’t tell you how to deal with certain situations!

Dark Souls (2011) is unforgiving like nothing else out there, which is why it will always be one of my favorite games of all time. Sure, maybe this edition got a bit too much praise for how hard it is, but it’s still a great game!

6. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

The people who thought that this would be a direct Dark Souls clone were wrong! Shadows Die Twice is as hard as it gets, if not even harder as its predecessor. This is the first FromSoftware game which forces you to deal with multiple bosses at once and it’s glorious!

In addition, crafting your own weapons from various materials makes this game even more fun than it already is! There are many great things about Shadows Die Twice, but its difficulty surely isn’t one of them.

7. Dark Souls: Artorias Of The Abyss

Dark Souls: Artorias Of The Abyss

Even though this is not a new release for the series, it does feel fresh as Artorias Of The Abyss offers players countless hours of gameplay.

This DLC can be considered to be one of the hardest entries in the whole Souls series due to the fact that you have 1 lifebar only throughout the entire game, even if your are playing in co-op!

And after finishing the game, you get to do it all over again in a new playthrough while getting access to better weapons and armor! If you’re going to take only 1 step in New Londo Ruins, make sure that its a running one. Otherwise, enjoy your death kids.

8. Dark Souls II: Crown Of The Old Sunken King

Dark Souls II: Crown Of The Old Sunken King
Dark Souls II: Crown Of The Old Sunken King

One of the most difficult releases in the entire Souls series. Crown Of The Old Sunken King lives up to its name and it often feels like more of a puzzle than an actual action game!

You will be dying over and over again even if you know what you have to do next, due to how many enemies get thrown at your face!

It’s a shame that the other 3 DLCs in this series are not as difficult as this one, but you can still enjoy those if you want! Overall, Crown Of The Old Sunken King is an awesome addition to the entire Souls franchise and it’s definitely worth checking out.

9. Dark Souls III: Ashes Of Ariandel

Another great addition to the Souls franchise, Ashes Of Ariandel is basically Artorias Of The Abyss but with PVP!

The game has not only one, but 2 bosses (not counting optional fights) which are considered to be some of the hardest ones in this series.

Both bosses make use of well-telegraphed patterns and the arena is really cramped! Once you enter this fight, better hope that your skill rivals whoever decided to invade you, otherwise it’s over for you my friend.

10. Dark Souls II: Crown Of The Old Iron King

Dark Souls II: Crown Of The Old Iron King

This DLC is only slightly easier than Crown Of The Old Sunken King, thanks to its larger areas. There is no doubt that this one has some of the best bosses in all of Souls games and it might be a worthy addition to your collection if you love a good challenge!

One thing is for sure, if you attempt to finish this game in co-op, you better hope that your friends don’t die too much or else you will end up carrying them throughout the entire game. And if they are good at PvP in this game, I hate to break it to you but chances are that strategically killing them is the best way to win this fight.

11. Dark Souls II: Crown Of The Ivory King

This is another outstanding DLC for the Souls series, but it’s not as challenging as Artorias Of The Abyss or Crown Of The Old Iron King.

Crown Of The Ivory King features 2 out of 3 bosses which are really easy to fight once you figure out their moveset. But there is one gem here, an optional boss which is brutal no matter what level you are.

Once you enter this fight, it’s all about dodging and remembering that fog-door to the next bonfire cooldown time! And even though this game might not be as hard as other entries in the series, having access to better weapons and armor can make things easier for you.

12. Dark Souls III: The Ringed City

Dark Souls III: The Ringed City
Dark Souls III: The Ringed City

One of the best entries in this franchise, The Ringed City lives up to its name even more than ever before! This DLC is packed with all sorts of interesting content to explore and it’s also one of the biggest maps yet.

Featuring many memorable boss fights, The Ringed City can kill you in 2 hits despite your level and the game is also filled with PVP players who like to invade you.

The way to succeed in this DLC starts by gaining early access to weapons which can penetrate through enemy defenses, but make sure that you watch out for highly aggressive invasions! The Ringed City makes use of some really interesting mechanics, so make sure that you explore everything before you go face to face with its bosses.

All in all, The Ringed City is easily one of the best entries in the entire Souls series and it’s worth playing at least once! Even though the game might not be as challenging as Artorias Of The Abyss or Crown Of The Old Sunken King, it’s still a great experience for those looking to get lost in a vast world!

13. Bloodborne: The Old Hunters

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters

Another entry in the Souls franchise and one of the hardest ones in this entire list.

If you want a challenge that will keep your hands glued to your controller, then The Old Hunters is an excellent choice! Featuring some fantastic boss encounters and well-crafted levels, this DLC will please fans who like their games difficult.

There are 3 bosses in this DLC and 2 of them are some of the most ruthless fights ever established in a Souls game. Not only do they keep you on your toes by keeping distance, but there is always the threat of an invader who might be waiting for you to help out!

Even though Bloodborne: The Old Hunters is rather difficult, it’s not as hard as Bloodborne’s main game and it’s still an experience that shouldn’t be skipped. It can be frustrating at times, but fans of this series will love exploring Yharnam once again!
