The Rock Wiki, Biography, Age, Career

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a professional wrestler and actor best known for his time in the WWE and his feud with Steve Austin as well as his work in major motion pictures like the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

Dwayne Douglas Johnson, later called “The Rock” in the ring, was born on May 2, 1972 in Hayward California to mother Ata and father Rocky Johnson, a former professional wrestler. He grew up in New Zealand and across the United States.

He grew up playing a variety of sports, from track and field to wrestling. By the time he was 17, he had been arrested for fighting, theft and check fraud.

As of August 2020, The Rock has more than 27.7 million TikTok followers, 57.8 million Facebook fans, 14.7 million Twitter followers, 5.21 million YouTube subscribers and 191 million Instagram followers.

Johnson started his career as a pro football player and received offers to play at multiple Division I schools. He went to the University of Miami on a full scholarship and played defensive tackle. In 1991, he was on the Miami Hurricanes’ national championship team.

During his football career, he suffered a number of injuries and was eventually replaced on the starting line up. He signed with the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders after he graduated college. The team cut him two months into the season.

After his football career, Dwayne decided to pursue a career as a professional wrestler and auditioned for the World Wrestling Foundation, or WWF, in 1996. He made his debut as Rocky Maiva, a combination of his father and his grandfather’s ring names. He was nicknamed “The Blue Chipper” and became WWF’s first third generation wrestler on TV. He debuted on “Monday Night Raw” that fall and joined “The Nation of Domination,” and that next spring he won the Intercontinental Championship. Eventually, Dwayne would start referring to himself in the third person as “The Rock” and he would take that on as his new name.

Eventually, The Rock took over as leader of “The Nation.” Once the group split, he joined the “Corporation,” an elite group of wrestlers. It was during this time that The Rock started a feud with Steve Austin, something many fans still remember to this day.

The “Corporation” eventually kicked out The Rock, and The Rock became known as “The People’s Champion.” In 2001, Dwayne took time off from WWE to film “The Mummy Returns,” his first major film. He returned to WWE for several years after this, but retired in 2004 to focus full-time on his acting career.

The Rock saw great professional success as a wrestler. He headlined the most-bought professional pay-per-view event ever, WrestleMani XXVIII and was featured in one of the most-watched episodes of “Raw and SmackDown,” one of WWE’s flagship shows.

Dwayne launched his acting career in 2001 and quickly became known as a hard-working actor. Over the course of his career, he has become one of the highest paid and most successful actors in Hollywood.

The Rock started his acting career with several smaller movies and supporting roles like “The Scorpion King,” “Be Cool,” Reno 911!: Miami,” and “Get Smart.”

He later became known as someone who could reinvigorate franchise productions like “Fast & Furious,” one of the franchises he helped revive and continued to be involved with for many years. He’s been in a number of other film and TV shows like “Jumanji,” “Ballers,” and more.

In addition to his wrestling and acting career, Dwayne also published a book titled “The Rock Says…” which made the New York Times Bestseller list.

Dwayne has three children, one with his ex-wife Dany Garcia and two with his wife Lauren Haishan.
