Best Sara Bareilles Best Songs Ranked, : Sarabareilles

A few days ago, Poetry By Deadmen popped up on my Spotify discovery playlist and I absolutely love it! I also really enjoyed Orpheus and Armor. I love the lyrics of all three songs, and I especially love the “feel” of Poetry by Deadmen and Orpheus. Both feel like late-night, smooth songs to paint or drink tea to. I’d love to hear more music like this.

I’m hoping to listen to more of her music, and was wondering if anyone could give me recommendations on where to start? I did hear Love Song, Brave, and Gravity when they first came out. I didn’t mind any of them, but none of them captured my interest.

Could anyone here recommend some other songs of hers that I should listen to? Are there any other songs that are similar to the ones I like? Are there any songs of hers that fans agree are her best?

Based on the songs you listed I would definitely recommend listening to the rest of the Amidst the Chaos album, and then the Once Upon Another Time EP. Sonically, I think that songs like December, She Used to be Mine, Manhattan, Breathe Again, and Between the Lines May be stuff you’d be interested in. I really think giving all of her studio albums (including her Waitress album!) would be worthwhile though, it’s so hard to pick just a few recommendations. Little Voice (single) that came out this year is also a nice quiet song to listen to at night. Sorry for giving a ton of suggestions, so hard to pick!

Just remembered this – I know you mentioned using Spotify, but on Apple Music there’s a demo recording of a song called “Hemingway” that is very laid back too.

I would also say songs like August Moon and I Just Want Your from her live albums are great choices. Besides that I would honestly recommend the whole album of Blessed Unrest.

Thanks, I just listened to August Moon live based on your recommendation and it’s really good. Her voice really holds up well live.

After thinking about this for far too long… It sounds like you want moody and simple; no rise and fall? Bareilles' genre is pop and with that comes busy tracks, with exception. When you say “paint or drink tea” I personally associate that with, dare I say, sophistication. Which brings us to the main point! What are some of her more moody, simple, even sophisticated tracks (in my opinion)? Caveat emptor, your mileage may vary, and so on.

Careful Confessions

“Gravity” – Simple; the other instruments kind of take a backseat to Bareilles' vocals.

Probably not much from Little Voice.

Kaleidoscope Heart

“Hold My Heart” – Moody, but not simple; may be better for tea time?

“The Light” – Simple; perhaps similar in pacing to “Poetry”.

“Basket Case” – Simple & moody; guitar, vocals, and harmonica.

“Bluebird” – Simple, maybe sophisticated?

Once Upon Another Time

Just skip “Sweet As Whole”, the rest should be good.

The Blessed Unrest

“Hercules” – Moody, not simple; even I would be compelled to paint to this one.

“Manhattan” – Moody & simple; Just Sara, her piano, and some production elements.

“Satellite Call” – Moody, with some sophistication. Good for some far-out paintings I'll see myself out.

“Islands” – Moody and simple; another great candidate.

Egregious recommendation time:

I think you should check her live stuff out. Brave Enough is just Sara and her instruments.

“Winter Song” by Ingrid Michaelson, which features Bareilles. Hits all the right spots for the list!

“If You Go” by Javier Dunn, also featuring Bareilles. She gives a shout out to Dunn (and the rest and the band), on “Many the Miles” on her live album Between the Lines.
