The new library will replace the CCPL’s existing branch at 5235 Wilson Mills Road. The existing branch will be closed Sunday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 13, as staff members prepare to move to the new location. The book drop will remain available for returns while the library is closed.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Richmond Heights Local Schools and Superintendent Dr. Renee Willis on this project and look forward to serving the student body and the public from the new building,” CCPL Executive Director Tracy Strobel said in a news release.
“Although it is connected to the school, the new Richmond Heights Branch has its own entrance, dedicated parking and will be open seven days a week, like our other branches.
“It will also offer public computer stations (with free Wi-Fi), meeting rooms and a great selection of materials for all county residents to use and enjoy.”
At 5,191 square feet, the new $1.5 million Richmond Heights Branch is approximately 50 percent larger than CCPL’s existing branch on Wilson Mills Road.
The Aug. 14 event is open to the general public and will include a ceremonial ribbon cutting; guest speakers; limited edition commemorative library cards; Pop Culture CLE gourmet ice pops, while supplies last; T-shirt screen printing and other family-friendly activities; and fine forgiveness, as the CCPL will waive library fines and fees for customers who visit the new branch between Aug. 14-21.
In addition to Strobel and Willis, those expected to attend the opening are Richmond Heights Mayor David Roche, Cuyahoga County District 11 Councilwoman Sunny Simon, Ohio 8th House District Representative Kent Smith and CCPL Board of Trustees members.
