Port Jervis Free Library

Although the library”s charter pre-dates the building itself, the cornerstone for the Port Jervis Free Library was installed in 1902. Today, the Port Jervis Free Library remains as one of the few Carnegie libraries in the United States which continues to fulfill its original purpose.

Among the library areas are:

A periodical and reference room with microfiche machines and public access Internet computers

Reference desk and public use photocopy machines

Fiction and non-fiction rooms

Separate children”s section on the 2nd floor

Public meeting and local history rooms

Bulletin boards for civil service job openings and area events

The Port Jervis Free Library is also an archive repository for the Minisink Valley Historical Society which is open every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and other times by appointment.

Because of its association with the Ramapo Catskill Library System, the Port Jervis Free Library is able to acquire books for its members from libraries throughout the region. To check on the availability and location of books follow this link.
