Elizabeth Shaila Koshy, known by her stage name Liza Koshy, is an American actress, YouTube star and TV host who first became popular on the video sharing platform Vine. Since then, Liza has become one of the most-followed YouTube stars. 

In addition to her work on social media, Liza has hosted a number of TV shows and events; she has co-created and starred in her own YouTube TV show. Liza has starred in a number of TV shows as well.

Elizabeth Shaila Koshy, known by her stage name Liza Koshy, was born on March 31, 1996 in Houston, Texas, to mother Jean Carol and Jose Koshy. Her father is Indian and her mother is of German descent. 

Liza has two older sisters and, growing up, she attended a dual language school where she learned Spanish as well as English. Later, she enrolled at the University of Houston, but later moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in acting. 

As of September 2021, Liza has 17.6 million YouTube subscribers, 19.2 million Instagram followers, 2.8 million Twitter followers, 4 million Facebook followers and 28.2 million TikTok followers. 

Liza started her career in 2013 when she started posting videos to the video sharing platform Vine. By the time Vine shut down, Liza had 7 million followers. 

At the same time, Liza started her YouTube page and started building her content. In November 2016, Liza’s YouTube channel started getting noticed; she interviewed presidential candidate Barack Obama about voter registration that same year. In 2017, Liza officially became the fastest person to reach 10 million subscribers on YouTube. Her videos will average millions of views. 

Her YouTube page did not post any new content from 2018 to 2019 while Liza focused on acting and hosting work. 

The social media star became known for her facial expressions, quick pace and her commitment to looking ridiculous. However, at the same time, she tackled many serious issues, including anxiety, internet trolls and the pressure to fit into the norm. 

When Liza’s YouTube page took off in 2016, the actress started to pursue acting and hosting jobs. In 2016, Liza starred as Violet in Hulu’s original horror series “Freakish,” a role which she reprised in the second season. The same year, she starred as Aday Walker in “Boo! A Madea Halloween.” Liza starred as herself in the YouTube premium series “Jingle Ballin’.” In 2016, Liza also starred as Princess Aubrey in the movie “FML.” 

The following year, in 2017, Liza joined the YouTube Premium mystery-reality series “Escape the Night.” 

In 2018, Liza co-created the YouTube Premium series “Lizza on Demand,” and starred in the show. The second season premiered in 2019. Her show received positive reviews. That same year, the actress portrayed the voice of Owl in “Crow: The Legend,” a virtual reality short film starring John Legend. 

Liza stars in the new Netflix comedy film “Work It” with Sabrina Carpenter, which premiered on streaming platform in 2020. 

In addition to her acting work, Liza has hosted a number of events. In 2017, she hosted the Golden Globes live pre-show, which received a record-breaking number of viewers on Twitter. 

She has had a number of hosting jobs. She hosted Nigel Lythgoe’s series “Every Single Step,” and has a partnership with MTV. She was the only social entertainer chosen to promote the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. From 2017 to 2019, Liza was the host of MTV’s “Total Request Live.” In addition, she served as a producer and content developer for MTV. From 2018 to 2019, Liza hosted the Nickelodeon game show “Double Dare.” 

Liza has received a number of accolades for her work. In 2016, Teen Vogue named Liza as one of the 7 Comedians You Need to Know. In 2017, The Hoolywood Reporter named Liza as one of their rising crossover stars. In 2019, Time Magazine named her one of the most influential people on the internet. The magazine also put her on their 2019 100 Next List. 

In addition, Liza has been nominated for dozens of People’s Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Streamy Awards, Kids’ Choice Awards and more. In 2020, she received a Daytime Emmy Award Nomination as one of the people involved with Nickelodeon’s Double Dare. The show was nominated for Outstanding Game Show. 

For several years, Liza was dating fellow YouTube star David Dobrik. The pair broke up in June 2018.
