Lauren Kobayashi Riihimaki, known by her stage name LaurDIY, is a Canadian YouTube star, TV host and entrepreneur best known for her crafty DIY videos on YouTube and for hosting the HBO Max show “Craftopia.” She started her YouTube channel while she was a freshman in college and posted sewing videos; the channel has since expanded to a DIY brand, and Lauren has become known as a down-to-earth craft leader and a millennial Martha Stewart. 

Lauren has taken her DIY brand beyond social media. In 2017, her brand new web series “Served by LaurDIY” debuted on Facebook Watch. In 2019, Lauren was announced as the executive producer and host for HBO Max’s new competition series called “Craftopia.” In addition, she hosts her own podcast with Jeremy Lewis.

Lauren Kobayashi Riihimaki, known by her stage name LaurDIY, was born on August 11, 1993 in Ontario, Canada. Lauren is of Finnish and Ukrainian descent on her father’s side of the family, and of Japanese descent on her mother’s side of the family. Lauren graduated from Ryerson University in Canada with a degree in graphic communications management. 

As of August 2021, Lauren Riihimaki has more than 4.4 million followers on Instagram, 8.65 million subscribers on YouTube, 5.7 million followers on Twitter, and 2.2 million followers on TikTok. 

Lauren first opened her YouTube channel in December 2011 and started posting DIY tutorial videos to her channel in her first year of university in Toronto, Canada. She started out by posting sewing videos to her page, but has since widened the scope of her videos and now Lauren posts a variety of videos, including general crafts videos. 

Lauren has since grown to millions of YouTube followers and more than 1.2 billion lifetime views on her account. She has been called one of the most authentic and down-to-earth influencers. Since starting her channel, Lauren has partnered with a number of major brands, including  Disney, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks and more.

Lauren has taken her DIY brand beyond social media. In 2017, her brand new web series “Served by LaurDIY” debuted on Facebook Watch. 

In 2019, Lauren was announced as the executive producer and host for HBO Max’s new competition series called “Craftopia.” 

Lauren has a number of other projects outside of social media as well. In 2017, she made her debut in her first feature film, “Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween.” That same year, she released her first single titled “DIY QUEEN.” YouTube cast Lauren in their inaugural season of YouTube’s “The Reality House” in 2019. In addition, Lauren hosts a podcast titled “Wild ‘Til 9” with her then-boyfriend Jeremy Lewis. 

Lauren has won several awards for her social media DIY content. She won a Shorty Award in the “House & Home” category, and later took home a Streamy Award in 2017 in the Lifestyle category. 

From 2010 to 2015, Lauren dated fellow YouTube star Sebastian “Baz” Morris. The pair split up in 2015 but remained good friends. He died in late May 2020 after he suffered from a seizure while swimming late at night. 

Lauren started dating fellow YouTube star Alexander “Alex” Burriss, known as Alex Wassabi, in 2015. They broke up several years later in late 2018. In 2019, Lauren began dating Jeremy Michael Lewis.
