Jacob Sartorius is an American singer, songwriter and popular social media personality. The singer first became popular when he joined Vine in 2014 at a young age and has since amassed millions of followers across his social media accounts. Jacob has also released a number of albums, EPs and singles that have charted in the BIllboard Top 100.
Rolf Jacob Sartorius, known by his stage name Jacob Sartorius, was born on October 2, 2002 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After his birth, he was adopted and moved to Virginia with his adopted parents, and he was raised in Reston, Virginia. Jacob started singing and acting at a young age. At 7 years old, he began acting in musicals.
As of September 2021, Jacob has 9.6 million Instagram followers, 3.01 million YouTube subscribers, 1.6 million Twitter followers and 24 million TikTok followers.
Jacob first became popular on social media when he joined the video sharing platform Vine in 2014, when he was just 11 years old. His first viral video was about anti-bullying and launched his career on social media.
He later switched to posting on Musical.ly, which later became TikTok, where he skyrocketed to online fame. Jacob would post lip-sync videos, and by August 2016, he had amassed more than 8 million fans. He was one of musical.ly’s most-followed users. Since Musical.ly became TikTok, Jacob has grown to millions of followers and remains one of the platform’s most-followed users.
The young star signed with T3 Music Group in 2016 and released his debut single “Sweatshirt” that same year. The song reached number 90 in the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart, and number 81 on the Canadian Hot 100. He performed his single at Magcon that same year, a unique festival where fans can meet and interact with the creatives.
Business Insider predicted that Jacob may become the next Justin Bieber once his single dropped.
Jacob soon released two more singles, “Hit or Miss” and “All My Friends.” His single “Hit or Miss” debuted at number 72 in the U.S. and remains his highest charting song.
In 2016, Jacob went on the “All My Friends” tour where he performed at six cities across the U.S.
In 2017, Jacob went on “The Last Text World Tour” where he played in seven countries following the release of his extended EP “The Last Text.” The EP was released at the start of the year.
That same year, Jacob signed with RCA Records and released his first major album, “Left Me Hangin’.” That winter, Jacob released “Cozy,” his first major Christmas song.
In 2018, Jacob released his EP “Better With You,” and that same year he opened for The Vamps on their Night & Day Tour. The following year, in 2019, he released another EP titled “Where Have You Been?”
Jacob has been nominated for a number of awards since the launch of his career, including two Teen Choice Awards, the Radio Disney Music Awards, the Kids’ Choice Awards, the iHeart Radio Music Awards and the Shorty Awards.
Jacob has been open about some of his more personal issues. The more popular Jacob became online, the worse the bullying at school. In 2015, Jacob switched schools three times because he would get verbally attacked, teased and pushed around. Several years later, in 2019, Jacob revealed on Instagram that he had been attending therapy and had been taking anti-depressant medication since he was 11 years old.
In addition, he dated “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown for a period of time.
