He’s also become well-known for his persona on camera: a ruthless, outrageous and quick-witted character who wears a black mullet wig, sunglasses, moisture-wicking shirt or black tactical vet. His character’s catchphrase is: “I’m on top of the mountain, and I’m only halfway up!” Dr Disrespect has described himself as a WWE-type character and has said “I created a character who plays multiplayer video games, and he’s considered the most dominating gaming specimen.”

Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV, better known on social media as Dr Disrespect, was born on March 10, 1982 in the United States. Growing up, he attended California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and played NCAA Division II basketball.

As of September 2021, Dr. Disrespect has more than 2.2 million followers on Twitter, 3.48 million subscribers on YouTube, 1 million followers on Instagram, and 1.1 million followers on TikTok. He was a high-profile figure on Twitch as well with more than 4 million followers, but was permanently removed from the platform in mid-2020.

Dr Disrespect, also known as Doc, started his gaming and streaming career in 2010 when he started posting gameplay videos of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The gaming channel Machinima featured him in a number of videos at the time. However, in 2011, Dr Disrespect went inactive on his social media – and he did not post any new content for almost five years.

At the time, he joined Sledgehammer Games in 2011 as the community manager and later was promoted to level designer, where he helped create many of the multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Around that same time, he joined Justin.tv, which was later called Twitch.

He returned to streaming in 2015 to focus full-time on streaming; he quit Sledgehammer Games.

Since starting his career as a streamer, Dr Disrespect has become known for his mastery of battle royale video games like H1Z1, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Black Ops 4: Blackout, Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends and Fortnite. His streams on Twitch are known for their high production value.

He’s also become well-known for his persona on camera: a ruthless, outrageous and quick-witted character who wears a black mullet wig, sunglasses, moisture-wicking shirt or black tactical vet. Even his mustache has a name: “Slick Daddy” or the “The Poisonous Ethiopian Caterpillar.” His character’s catchphrase is: “I’m on top of the mountain, and I’m only halfway up!”

Dr Disrespect has described himself as a WWE-type character and has said “I created a character who plays multiplayer video games, and he’s considered the most dominating gaming specimen.”

In March 2020, Dr Disrespect signed an exclusive, multi-year streaming deal with Twitch. However, on June 26, 2020, Twitch banned Dr Disrespect for the streaming platform for unexplained reasons. According to some publications, the ban is permanent, though not much is known about why Dr Disrespect was banned, or when he may return- if ever.

“Champions Club, Twitch has not notified me on the specific reason behind their decision… Firm handshakes to all for the support during this difficult time,” he tweeted following the ban.

After the ban, Dr Disrespect started streaming on YouTube in August and had more than 3.48 million viewers concurrently.

In addition to his streaming, Dr Disrespect is working on a personal memoir titled “Violence. Speed. Momentum,” set to be released in 2021.
