Douglas DeMuro, better known on social media as Doug DeMuro, is an American blogger, YouTube star, writer and businessman in the car industry. Doug started his career in the automotive industry at Porsche’s North American headquarters in Atlanta but later quit to focus on automotive writing. He would write for several blogs, including The Truth About Cars, his own blog, called PlaysWithCars, Oversteer (owned by Autotrader) and Jalopnik. Doug started his YouTube channel in 2013 while he was writing car reviews and he would slowly grow the channel into millions of followers. 

Doug was featured in an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage; he appears in a season three episode titled “Larger Than Life.”  In the 2017 episode, he tried to recognize cars while blindfolded. He later appeared on Jay Leno’s show again in 2019 where he reviews his McLaren F1.

Douglas DeMuro, better known on social media as Doug DeMuro, was born on May 22, 1988 in Denver, Colorado, the United States. He attended George Washington High School growing up. He later studied at Emory University and received a bachelor’s degree in economics. He met his wife at college. 

As of September 2021, Doug DeMuro has more than 4.14 million subscribers on YouTube, 142,000 followers on Twitter, 353,000 followers on Instagram, and 76,000 followers on Facebook.

Doug started his career in the automotive industry at Porsche’s North American headquarters in Atlanta working as a vehicle allocation manager. In addition, he would write for Autotrader.com. He quit his job at Porsche just one year after he was hired to focus more on automotive writing. He would write for several blogs, including he Truth About Cars, his own blog, called PlaysWithCars, and Jalopnik. He would buy interesting second-hand used cars recommended to him by readers which he would later review and write about. 

Doug started his YouTube channel in 2013 while he was writing car reviews and he would slowly grow the channel. 

Doug would later become the editor for Autotrader’s new blog Oversteer. He wrote columns and articles at the time, but shifted his focus to his YouTube channel where he would post car reviews. Cars on his channel include older cars from the 70’s all the way up to cars in the present. In a review on his channel, Doug will discuss the exterior and interior features of the car – “quirks and features” – and well then give it a “DougScore.” The DougScore is based on scores in 10 different categories. 

Doug was featured in an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage; he appears in a season three episode titled “Larger Than Life.”  In the 2017 episode, he tried to recognize cars while blindfolded. He later appeared on Jay Leno’s show again in 2019 where he reviews his McLaren F1. 

In addition, Doug runs an auction website for car enthusiasts seeking their next car. The auction site, titled Cars & Bids, launched in 2020. 

Prior to his social media career, Doug would write articles for The Truth About Cars, Jalopnik, and the Autotrader.com blog Oversteer. He also worked as an editor for Oversteer.
