Nothing says comfort food like a warm, oozy grilled cheese sandwich. Even though it”s an incredibly simple meal, there”s a lot of technique that can make or break sandwich perfection.I love a traditional grilled cheese sandwich, just bread and cheese, with no additional fillers. (I know not everyone agrees with this assessment, so I”ve included a few more unique varieties in this list.) In this quest for the best grilled cheese sandwiches in Seattle I looked for crispy bread, lots of cheese and a definite lack of sogginess. The Gerald.

First on this list is The Gerald in Ballard. Their Grilled Cheese Classica is exactly what I”m looking for after I”ve had a few beers and I”m looking for some greasy goodness. It”s made with both Beecher”s and Tillamook cheddars and then grilled to perfection on Macrina sourdough. If you”re someone who likes to add some extra goodies, for three bucks you can add bacon, egg, avocado and tomato. They”ve also got a great tomato bisque if you”re looking to do some dipping. And if you”ve still got room after your first grilled cheese, you can order their Dessert Grilled Cheese made with sweet Italian mascarpone, pound cake and apricot jam! The Gerald5210 Ballard Ave NWSeattle, WA 98107Neighborhood: Ballard Café Mox. Ballard seems to know its grilled cheese sandwiches, since our next stop is to Café Mox. I went there once when their special of the day was the Grilled Cheese Colossal Sandwich. Weighing in at one and a half pounds, it featured two giant slices of decadent brioche bread and an incredible 12 slices of American cheese toasted with butter. Their specials are always changing and a few recent ones have included a grilled cheese with three kinds of pork and another with prosciutto and green apples. Café Pettirosso”s grilled cheese makes this list for its unique combination of cheeses. They toast sourdough with Havarti and Beecher”s Flagship cheese, making for a creamy and tart sandwich that”s absolutely perfect for dipping in a cup of their creamy tomato basil soup. Café Pettirosso1101 E Pike StSeattle, WA 98122Neighborhood: Capitol Hill Cheese Wizards. Seattle”s food truck scene is getting better and better each year, and because of this our grilled cheese sandwiches have also gotten a serious upgrade. Cheese Wizards is a whimsical food truck where worshipping cheese is the name of the game. While the sandwiches are spectacularly delicious, I love stopping here for the excellent tomato soup and dipping sauces almost as much as the cheese! Try the Wizard”s Familiar made with two Tillamook cheddars, Kerrygold Londoner and Monterey Jack cheeses and a cup of tomato basil soup. Cheese WizardsAlways on the go! Grilled Cheese Experience.
It”s not hard to guess from the name of this food truck that it”s got great grilled cheese sandwiches. While the classic is absolutely divine, try the Purple Haze if you”re feeling adventurous. It”s made with triple cream Gorgonzola, blackened Hangar steak, potato chips(!), parmesan crusted sourdough and a blackberry balsamic reduction. Grilled Cheese ExperienceAlways on the go!
