Audio visual is incredibly important, but it’s also very hard to get right.
Most people settle for a mediocre AV system that leaves them disappointed and frustrated. They pay too much money, don’t get the results they want, or find their AV company isn’t reliable.
We get it because we were in the same situation until we discovered audio visual design.

What is audio visual design?
Audio visual design is the composition of images, music, text and other media elements to capture attention and convey a message. It’s also called AV Design.
While it’s primarily used in advertising, cinema or television programs among others, its techniques are often employed elsewhere as well. Like in video games for instance where tutorials use audio visual design as well.
In advertising, the goal is as you can imagine to sell a product or service and therefore we find concepts such as branding and the so-called 4 P’s of marketing: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
The importance of audio visual design in the modern day
One of the best ways to get a message across is through audio visuals. Many people seem to take this for granted and it is one of the most underappreciated forms of communication in modern society.
The reason might be that we do not seem to recognize its power – we see it every day, yet we don’t really think about what it is doing.
One of the most powerful examples of this form of communication is through television. Television has the power to shape people’s views on certain things, yet sometimes we don’t realize how it can do that.
For example, in the United States almost every morning there is a news program playing on at least one channel. The news anchors and reporters have to wear formal attire — usually a suit or something close to it.
The reason for this is because they want you to take them seriously. Because these people are reporting news, they want the viewer to understand that what they are saying is factual.
This means that if someone wears more flamboyant clothing, such as a polka dot dress, the audience will not take them as seriously. This is because they aren’t wearing formal clothing, which implies that they aren’t powerful or don’t have any power.
How to create a soundscape for your home or office
Sound is an integral part to our lives. It helps set the mood in movies, music, and songs to help convey emotions that are appropriate for whatever is happening in the story or song.
By just looking at a video with no sound you might think it’s boring to watch but then when you add sound or turn on captions you can see that the scene has a completely different feeling.
Sound can have an effect on your mood, it can help you concentrate, and even help with relaxation. With all of these benefits I feel everyone should take advantage of them by adding sound to their life if they don’t already have any sound in their home or office.
The first thing you have to do is identify what type of noise you’d like to have in your home or office.
Do you want some background noise that will help you concentrate? Or do you want something for relaxation? From there it’s just a matter of finding places where you can put speakers and then the types of products that are needed (speakers, subwoofers, amps, etc).
If you want some noise in your home or office but don’t know where to start here is a list of ideas that can be used to create your soundscape.
Stereo System (home) – A stereo system consists of speakers and an amplifier all contained in one stand alone piece of equipment. Most stereo systems are designed to play music but they can be used to play your favorite relaxation sounds.
The subwoofer is the most important part of a stereo system if you’re looking for deep bass. If you don’t have one already I would recommend buying one along with stereo speakers so you can get started right away with having sound in your home.
Bluetooth speaker (home) – These types of speakers connect wirelessly to your phone, computer or other Bluetooth enabled device.
They can provide a variety of different sounds and they’re usually small and portable so you can take them with you wherever you go. If you get more than one they can be daisy chained together so they all sound the same if you want.
Computer speakers (home) – These can be used to play most sounds and they don’t take up a lot of space. Some computer speakers come with an amplifier but if yours doesn’t you’ll need one that has its own built in amp or you’ll need an external amplifier.
Home theater system (home) – This is a more powerful version of the stereo system. It’s supported by large speakers instead of small ones and it requires an amplifier with its own built in power supply.
Creating a mood with lighting and colors
A color is characterized by three properties: Hue, Saturation and Brightness. Hue is the color itself and brightness is how bright this color appears.
For example red has a hue of 0 degrees because you start seeing it on the red line after zero degrees which starts at green (120) and goes up to blue (180). If you want to know more about hues check out this on-line book on the color wheel .
Saturation is how intense or deep a color appears. It can be changed by adding white, black or gray which will decrease it’s saturation. The most saturated colors are fully colored (black+white) with no shades of grey in between. If you want to know more about hues check out this on-line book on the color wheel .
Colors mix with each other. The resulting color is called a secondary color because it’s made up of two colors which are called primary colors.
Secondary colors are always between the primary colors that mix to create them. For example, red+yellow=orange and blue+red=violet. A secondary color in between two primary colors is the one that appears in the middle. For example, orange in between red and yellow or violet in between blue and red.
Designing an ideal space for TV viewing
Simple geometry and a few guidelines to follow can help ensure that your flat panel TV has the best possible picture. The first step is to understand what causes picture quality problems – and why moving your TV farther away from its ideal location makes all of them worse.
The two primary culprits are light and geometry – too much light will wash out your screen, and the wrong geometry will cause things to look too big or small. The idea is to eliminate these two problems, while also making sure that you have ample room for both your eyes and your TV.
